Since starting to train with Sandy, my puck handling and rebound control have improved immensely. I feel much more comfortable leaving my net to set up or make a play with the puck now than I did before training with Sandy. He is currently helping me prepare to play at the NCAA division 1 level by teaching me to contain pucks in a way that prevents any second chances for the other team. I feel confident that the training we have been doing will be evident when I arrive at Cornell in September.

My name is Donelle Latimer and I played hockey on the highest team available in Whitby for ten years, and won the Vicky Sunohara Award of Excellence in its final year. Since then I have gone on to play hockey at Brown University at the NCAA Division 1 level. I would not have been able to accomplish these things if it weren’t for the exemplary coaching of Sandy Sampson. Sandy is by far the best goaltending coach I have had the pleasure of working with in my career. In fact, he is the best coach I have ever had. He completely understands the technical aspects of goaltending and the movements involved and can explain them both clearly. He also understands his goalies. In the five years he has taught me, I have never been unable to understand what Sandy asks of me, or why he asks it. Nor have I been unable to do something he asks. He truly knows each of our limits and works with us in steps that allow us to progress and surpass these limits. Sandy also knows how important the mental aspect of goaltending is. When we need to be pushed he pushes us. He pushes us hard. Yet, when one of us finds ourselves overwhelmed or struggling, Sandy is always there with encouraging words. He goes above and beyond the call of regular coaches all the time. I simply cannot count the number of times he has helped me off of the ice. Whether it be helping us pick out new equipment, or helping us choose the right University, Sandy makes sure his goalies get what they require to achieve their goals.

I have been working with Sandy since I was 8 years old and continue to work with him throughout my CIS university career at Ryerson University. Sandy has helped me grow tremendously throughout the years. He is always up to date and introducing new techniques. He is aware of your limits and always pushes you to them. He has helped me transformed into a successful goalie in minor hockey to the PWHL and now into the CIS. I would not of had the opportunities and the success I have had without training with Sandy, by far the best goalie coach out there!
